]]>I ran a workshop in which i told stories and involved the students in looking at their dreams and hopes for the future and showing them how possible all of this stuff was and that they really could achieve these things. Instead of calling them dreams we called them Targets. The re-labling thing we're told in NLP. You could literally see the transformation taking place there and then. Students who were sitting back disinterested suddenly sat straight and made eye contact. Major change was starting to germinate.
At the end of the day I was asked to close the whole Careers day, so all of the small workshop groups were pulled together in a large hall and I was to finish off. I was actually a little apprehensive, where I'm not usually. But the problem I had was I wasn't used to having such a high standard set.
You see the day was opened by the super charismatic and comical Brian Moore from local radio station Metro Radio's afternoon show. The response he got was great and the stories he told, delivery and all were of a well seasoned professional (not saying he's old) who's been in the business for years.
Okay I have been doing this for years, I've been on stage for over 15 of them but I felt the pressure was on. Cheers Brian.
So I was announced on stage and for the first time in my entire career I was whooped and cheered on. I thought I'd made it. Seriously, the encouragement filled me with adrenaline and I bounded on stage and stared.
In the 15 minutes I had to close the day I was so pleased that everyone was quiet and listened when I wanted yet they joined in when asked.
All in all I think we all had a great day and the other businesses involved in that day were absolutely superb too. Today I'm back in the office. I'll make the tea...would you like a hob nob with that?

Mind Reader and After Dinner Speaker

It was a superb day, the journey down was none eventful, I sat and read by book as did my beloved (well a magazine). Off the train and straight underground where Londoners were excited to hear that all lines were working to time. Right through to Leicester Square to 'Yates's' bar. A Bear and Burger meal later and after a pint of the Fosters nectar we set off for the Phoenix Theatre where Blood Brothers was showing. We collected the tickets from an American woman who had an attitude from hell, abrupt and evil so we frowned at her and left, tickets in purse, Tess' purse not mine.
To kill the hour wait we had before the 3pm matinee performance we headed tube-wise for Hyde Part and the Palace of Buckingham. Lovely walk through the park, avoiding the random joggers and cyclists then realised we should hot foot it to the Green Park tube to see 'the show'.
Arriving at the theatre there were a mass of school children in lines so we were ready to have to wait in line then realised that it was a teachers thing to sort their pupils out. So in we went, found our seats in row B of the dress circle, only the best seats in the house of Kennedy (lol).
Was it good? Well what are you doing right now? Are you bored and need something to do? With tickets from only £30.00 you owe it to yourself to get to their website and see this show. Who cares where you live, fly to London and see it because its fabulous. I know thats an arty farty word but I mean its just mind blowing.
What a hell of a mix of comedy, superb acting (apart from one who I shall come on too in a sec) and pure tragedy in the end. The music was superb and really set the mood. Stars of the show are the Narrator, this guy has presence and vocal power like I have always dreamed. And Micky. The bloke playing this role is so versatile that you just have no choice but to believe that he's 7 years old and then later that he's a 30 year old man.
Weaknesses, okay there has to be one and for once me and my lady agreed on the show's weakness. Although I could have listened to Mrs Johnston singing all day,a beautiful voice, unfortunately her acting ability didn't live up to the rest of the cast. A singer yes but when put up against the tightly trained cast she just wasn't up there. That said she certainly looked the part, she had the right figure to convince us that she was mother, her hair annoyed me but most of all she was emotionless, disappointing when the final scene is left to her. Credit where it's due most of the audience were in floods of tears, Tess included. I think this was down to the portrayal done by the 'brothers' Micky and Eddy more than anything else but if only Mrs Johnston had been that little more convincing then maybe I'd have shed a tear too. I was close, but not there.
Blood Brothers you were good, great in fact. The plot, music, sets costume and cast as a whole are phenomenal. Standing ovation, usually yes. Not on this day.
Even though its not up there as one of my favorite shows with Wicked and Les Msserables, I didnt stand at the end, and the reason is silly.
The difference between standing and not is the atmosphere. We were sat in amazing seats, however what we couldn't control was the fact that we were literally surrounded by school children so the atmosphere where we were sitting was not intense enough to lift me to my feet. In the stalls they were all on their feet and the production deserves that.
So now I am back to reality, of course I've been invited to perform back at As You Like It in Jesmond on February 23rd and the tickets are not on sale for the dinner and show combo. I have been asked to be special guest performer at a psychic night in a major bar in Newcastle, but I will tell you about that next time.

Psychological Magician and Mind Reader
I am a lover of the cinema and going to see this fantastic musical on the big screen was just another reminder. The place was packed, sold out, popcorn at the ready and cheap sweets from Sainsburys in Tess' handbag ready to do the lights went down and it started.
I absolutely loved it. Since I hadn't seen the show before the ending caught me completely by surprise. I wont spoil it for you but its really lovely. Alan Rickman was the super star of this, playing the antagonist the not so Honorable Judge. Depp was damn good too, although since the opening scene was him alighting a large ship, talking in his cockney accent i couldn't help but draw parallels with his Captain Jack Sparrow performance in the beloved Pirates of The Caribbean. As soon as the boat was out of shot I was ready to listen to his new story.
Its an 18, now maybe im just a bit too street-wise and hip for my own good but there was little use of harsh language, but yet a lot of gore. My reckoning for this is that they show the use of blades and explicitly how they are used to commit murder, draw blood and cause suffering. But as usual this issue causes some internal cells of my master computer to whir. I am a fan of gruesome 'show us your guts' kinds of movies. Its strange that something as visual and intense as the Saw trilogy should get the same rating as this much milder 'horror musical'. Just goes to show that things, nor people should be put in to boxes.
WHAT ELSE?
Well thats not all that's going on in Kennedy Towers. No, we're off to London to buy the rudimentary Heat magazine it would appear, although it is a fleeting trip so there is little chance of having time to do even that. For the first time in a while its a pure pleasure seeking trip to the big smoke. Getting the train down on Thursday morning and back on the same night. In between we're going to grab lunch somewhere pretty and head along to the Phoenix Theatre to see Willy Russel's Blood Brothers. Of course a full report will follow.
Meetings for the rest of today about updates to the website, other exciting activities and hopefully I'll be able to announce a date for my new show Mind Trap by the end of this week.

The idea of this group seems really good in that they strive to only allow people who deliver quality services, making the group a tight nit set of highly effective, productive people who are proud to refer business to one another.
WHY was there a mind reader and psychological magician there? Was I there to network. Well no but I did anyway. I was asked there as the guest speaker...they have one each meeting...I performed for around 20 minutes and talked for a further 15 about what I do for corporate and private functions. Everyone seems really nice and many of them came up to me afterwards to ask for my contact details.
Overall it was a very positive and productive day. Tomorrow night I'm performing at As You Like It in Newcastle.
I'll write a full report on the event, so you'll know what works well and if anything doesnt I'll tell you all about that too.

However tomorrow I am back on the Natinal Express Eastern Railway (now that GNER gave up on it) and heading for London. Well in actual fact a place called Ware in Herfordshire. I feel a bit weird travelling National Express because it always conjours up images of a coach of white haired older people singing "she'll be coming round the mountain when she comes..." on their annual outing o Blackpool. I love older people and perform for them often but I'm not one yet.
Tomorrow night I'm performing my 60 minute stand-up mind reading and psychological show for a company called ACM. Its their senior manager's meeting and I'm the guy to whip them in to a comedy frenzy at the same time as making them scratch their heads in wonderment...apparently. Very much looking forward to that.
I will try to write to you en route to tell you of the excitement that takes place. I usually end up talking to someone who makes ariels for a living (honestly!) or someone who smells of a victorial urinal. Sexy times!
